Coming Up: Grand Comeback of the New King Eagle

*I am so in love with basketball. After the NBA Finals where Miami Heat won again [Happy! Go away Heat Haters! Ha!], I am glad to welcome the new season of UAAP. Here is my post last 2011 about Keifer Ravena, my most favorite UAAP basketball player today.
Kiefer Ravena
“He is the future of the Philippine Basketball.” This line talks about the 17-year-old Kiefer Ravena, a slightly skinny but with athletic body, baby-faced and about six-foot tall guard of Ateneo Blue Eagles. At a young age, he had shown his athletic and physical skills in terms of playing basketball but what makes him the basketball prodigy for sports anaylsts is because of his very high basketball IQ. This rookie of UAAP Season 74 captured the attention of all UAAP fans aside from Ateneo community. He did not only give a fantastic game in the hard court during the recent round 1 of this season but he also gave buzz in the Facebook, Yahoo and Twitter for trending worldwide.

Ravena a.k.a ‘Blue Mamba’ started playing at the young age of seven and was chosen as the youngest player for the junior team of Ateneo Blue Eaglets when he was only 13 years old. Last year, Ravena led the Blue Eaglets of Ateneo High School to 3-peat championships in the UAAP Juniors Basketball and he won as the Finals Most Valuable Player. He played and captained the team of the national youth at the 2010 FIBA-Asia Under-18 Championship where he was chosen as one of the Mythical Five awardees. He was really born to be a champion and it’s not questionable because he came from a family of athletes. His father is Bong Ravena, a former basketball player of University of the East and currently the assistant coach of Talk 'n Text in Philippine Basketball Association. His mother is Mozzy Ravena, a former varsity player of volleyball team of University of Santo Tomas and currently a sports analyst for ABS-CBN Sports. His younger brother, Thirdy, is also a basketball player for Blue Eaglets while sister Dani is a grade school volleyball player. He is a natural athlete but like any player, he is just a normal college freshman who also prioritizes his studies, cracks silly jokes and loves to hear music. Though, the limelight is all over him, he wants to be treated as a normal guy especially inside the Ateneo ground.

He is also known as ‘The Phenom’ tagged by the press people for his outstanding abilities in basketball. As one of the starters and talented rookie of Ateneo, his goal is to help the team to win its fourth consecutive championship. And like what every basketball player dreams, Ravena also hopes to be the first Filipino to make it to the National Basketball Association (NBA). Making this dream is difficult but not impossible for this Blue Eagle who keeps soaring high towards the greatest peak of the sports he loves. According to the statistical data from round 1 of Season 74, he is one of the great contenders for the titles of Rookie of the Year and not surprisingly for Most Valuable Player. Every time he gets the ball, everybody looks magnetized by his exceptional moves. He keeps his composure, makes the game exciting through his skills and shows his maturity in every game. No doubt, The Phenom deserves the awes from all.
